  1. Set a programmable thermostat - You can save 10 percent per year by using a programmable thermostat.
  2. Sunlight - Use the heat from sunlight to your advantage by choosing window treatments to reduce heat loss and gain.
  3. Energy Star appliances, fans, and electronics - Energy Star products are design to save nearly $750 for the life of the products.
  4. Energy—Saving light bulbs - By replacing your 5 mostly used light bulbs you can save $75 a year.
  5. Electronic power strip - By using a power strip for your electronic device, you can turn it off when not in use and save up to $100 a year.
  6. Control Water Heating - Lower your water heater temperature and install low-flow showerheads to save money on your water heating bill.
  7. Maintain your heating and cooling system - Make sure to check and replace your air filters regularly to make sure the systems are working at their peak.
  8. Home performance contractor - There are professionals who will do a home energy audit and measure your home energy efficiency to advise where you can save money.
